Bees in hollow tree

We did a walk north of Perth over Easter, the Yaberoo Budjara heritage trail, and while having our lunch in a nice spot we discovered it was right next to a hollow tree with a huge bees nest in it...

New Zealand - Tarawera Valley

It was a rainy day when we visited the waterfalls in Tarawera Valley, and I understood immediately why the mosses where growing so good...

Young seagull

New Zealand - Still Water Beach

In Februari I was in New Zealand to visit friends. We went for a walk on Still Water Beach where I saw some beautiful seaweeds and other stuff. The seaweed is stuck to a shell which gives the impression they have roots like a tree.

Nest of spiders

Found this huge nest of baby spiders in the garden. The babies are not bigger than a pin head but I don't think I want to know how big they get when grown up... there are far too many of them...

Willy Wagtail

Willy Wagtail discovered the mirror in a corner of my garden and now thinks he is in love... he is there every day, from early morning to late afternoon.

Empty wasp nest

About a month later I checked the mean wasp's nest again and found it deserted so I cut it off and put the branch with the tiny nest, it's not bigger than a golf ball, in another where it won't hurt. Hope they'll build it up further as I won't mind a few wasps in the garden.
Look how pretty they made the nest chambers, one is still closed with a sticky stuff while others are long time open or still have the sticky corners of recent development.

Green Praying Mantis

This little fellow was racing over the white walls of the dunny, and one moment he stopped, contemplating if I could take a picture or not...

Dead wasp

Justice is done! When I wanted to read my book for a bit under the lemon trees, my favorite spot in the garden, I found this dead wasp on my pillows. I am pretty sure it was the one who stung me on Sunday!

Mean wasp

This afternoon I was pruning a bush in the back of the garden when suddenly I had to scream from a stinging pain in my bottom lip and brushed off a wasp who clung to my finger to give me another sting. I managed to suck out the sting with my insect bite extractor and that eased the pain. But of course I got my camera out to see the culprit who caused the pain and found this little nest being build by a few mean looking wasps...

It looks like they are breeding a whole colony with tiny white eggs in the nest, not sure if I like them in my garden. These aren't friendly wasps, and not the European paper wasps like the one I had on camera a few monhts ago. I couldn't find if it is a local wasp or not, do you know?

Owlet Moth - Dasypodia selenophora

Or also called 'Southern Old Lady Moth'. She was resting on my veranda with a drop of clear liquid, nectar, on her proboscis. With big furry legs she must have been hot with 35 degrees outside.

Pied Oystercatchers

Pied Oystercatchers looking for worms on the beach. In the short time we were watching they got already several worms out, getting their beaks in until the end, pecking and the next dive there is a worm hanging on it.
