As I had released the tadpoles with the arms and legs before I went on holiday a few weeks ago I thought I would never see them back. But this little guy was waiting for me next to the waterhole, every day he's there to say hello. He is so tiny, smaller than my little toe and hard to spot when in the water. Luckily he is often waiting on the brick which is on top of the waterhole to hold the metal oven rack so he can escape from the cats and chooks in our garden! Isn't he beautiful?
The last of the little tadpoles left their glass bowls today. I hope they will love it in the wild, that is, my backgarden... I have several little water holes and all of them contain a few or more tadpoles in different stages of growth. Soon I hope to listen to a choir of motorbike froggies in the evening!
These kangaroos loved the silty water at the beach in Lucky Bay. The little one was pretty used to people so you could pet him, and anyone who ever has pet a kangaroo knows how soft they are...
Also called the Mollyhawk. A huge variety of sea gulls of about 60 cm tall with a wing span of about 1.5M. This couple was holding up on a light post at the jetty in Esperance.
This lizard was making itself flat on top of the rocks to look invisible but when they walk you have a big laugh, as they heave themselves high on their legs and run with wobbly knees as fast as they can, a bit spiderlike :)
I was in the outback last weekend, at Gindalby, a sheep station east of Kalgoorlie. These photos were taken in the dam near the house. Cracked red earth!
There used to be lots of longneck turtles in Lake Claremont a few years ago. But in spring 2007 I started missing them, I found a few skeletons, empty shells, all dried up. This year I haven't seen any either until a bit before Christmas I found this skeleton, it looked still pretty 'fresh', not like the dried things I've found last year. So there must be a few around but I keep on wondering what happened to them. And why do I find skeletons, is someone eating them...?
And here are the first bits of legs, if you can find them between all the turds hanging from their backs. I need to clean the bowl much more often than before because of the amount they poo in the water.
At the beach in Boranup down south I discovered these hardy flowers growing in the yellow sand, the leaves felt like leather with a very soft hairy top. Beach sand was sticking to it and the snails hiding on it made the leave crumble by their moist. The yellow flower is all gel like in the middle.
About six weeks ago the passion scrub in our garden was still flowering but at the moment they are replaced by already huge fruits. That's the first time, as last year there were only flowers and no fruits.
Lately I can't find the cat during the hot of the day until I discovered her hiding space today! Inside the big white vase in the back of the garden seems to be a good place to spend some time...
Nothing can compare to the original shapes of flora and fauna. Life is beautiful and while wandering around I regularly have a lucky find of some real pretty things. I used to take them home but nowadays I take my digital camera with me and leave them in place. They are my inspiration!
